In the wake of a court setback, Donald Trump recently implied—again—that judges and legal constraints are no match for a determined presidency. Democratic leaders responded in a now-familiar way. Statements were issued affirming respect for the rule of law. Letters were sent reminding the public that institutions matter. There was confidence, voiced calmly, that the process would work. The news cycle moved on. The threat remained.
